Bumpy Flight Controls

The official key list, the CTRL conflict, and cockpit habits that keep a BETA aircraft stable.

Controls

Most early crashes in Bumpy Flight are not mysterious physics. They are a Pilot who never read the official key list. The experience description prints the binds in the same block as the BETA warning. This page reprints them, explains how they feel in the air, and calls out the CTRL conflict so you stop dumping throttle when you only wanted the mouse.

Official keyboard binds

These are the published plane controls:

ActionKey
Pitch up / downW / S
Turn left / rightA / D
Increase throttleSHIFT
Decrease throttleCTRL
Unlock mouseCTRL

Yes, CTRL is listed twice. The developer wrote CTRL to unlock your mouse and CTRL to decrease throttle in the same description. In practice that means the key is context-sensitive. On the runway HUD it bites power. In a menu or when the camera is locked, it frees the cursor. If you need the mouse to redeem a code or click a supply prompt, open the menu first or accept that you may also chop the engines. Details for the code menu live on how to redeem.

How the plane wants to be flown

Think in taps, not in holds. SHIFT should rise in pulses until the climb feels solid. Holding it like a sprint key in an FPS is how you overspeed a BETA airframe and then discover you cannot think during the first emergency. CTRL to reduce should be the same: tap, wait, tap. Slamming both keys is how highlight reels get their mid-air stalls.

W and S are pitch, not “forward and back on the ground” in the usual Roblox sense once you are the aircraft. A and D change heading. Combine them slowly. A hard A plus a hard W is a spiral, not a turn. If you need a mental model, fly as if a full cart of luggage is stacked in the aisle, because it often is.

Mouse, camera, and the cabin

When you are not Pilot, you are an avatar walking a fuselage. Use normal Roblox move keys and free the mouse when you need to click a bag, a seat, or a supply terminal. Do not free the mouse by mashing CTRL in the open cockpit door or you will surprise the Pilot with a power cut. Call it. Then click.

Shift-lock and camera clips can fight you in a narrow cabin. If you cannot click a passenger, step back one tile and try again before you declare a bug. Real bugs still happen; see the BETA notes.

Controller and mobile

The official text is a keyboard list. If you are on a pad or a phone, expect on-screen throttle and stick equivalents. We will not invent button icons the developer has not published. If your device cannot modulate throttle finely, you should not be the primary Pilot on a serious complete. Take cabin or engineer and read those role pages instead.

Practice without wasting a full route

Use the first calm minute after rotation as a practice box. Feel how much W you need for a level cruise. Feel how long SHIFT takes to add energy. Then stop fiddling. A Pilot who is still “getting used to it” during an engine call is a Pilot who will fly the problem into the ground. Friends can rotate the seat between routes using the friends guide.

Controls will not save a bad prep

Perfect binds do not create fuel. They do not seat passengers. They do not fetch a wrench. Pair this page with the pre-flight checklist and how to play. The keys are the last ten percent of a complete and the first ten percent of a crash.

Learn them once. Then keep your hands quiet so the rest of the crew can work.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

What are the Bumpy Flight flying controls?

W and S pitch, A and D turn, SHIFT adds throttle, CTRL reduces throttle. The same CTRL key is also listed as mouse unlock.

Why does the plane lose power when I open a menu?

CTRL is bound to throttle down and to mouse unlock. Open menus from a stopped or stable state, or have someone else click while you fly.

Are there official controller binds?

The developer published a keyboard list. Treat pad and mobile layouts as on-screen equivalents and avoid being Pilot if you cannot meter throttle.
